Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)

Q. Why is wedding photography so expensive?
A. It isn't - at least, not from our company. Also consider that you are hiring a professional. There are numerous costs involved in providing a professional service, including professional grade equipment, insurance, taxes, travel, training, etc.

Q. Why is Stuart Walker Photography so inexpensive?
A. Compared to the average cost of wedding photography, we are very affordable. One reason is that we do not have the need to rent studio space. Our main areas of focus (including weddings) means we don't need to pass this expense onto our clients. We also minimise unnecessary postage and travel expenses through increased use of electronic communication.

Q. Why should we choose you?
A. Because we offer exceptional value for money. Our principal photographer has won various awards for his images and when you see our samples, you will be able to decide for yourself if our creative vision matches your needs.

Q. What awards has your photographer won?
A. To date, we have been awarded the following:

  • "Winner - Education category" Panorama Awards (2001).
  • "Gold Award" in the following categories, awarded by the SWPP - Landscape (February 2008, May 2008, August 2008), Pets (June 2008, September 2008, November 2008, February 2009, November 2009, January 2010, February 2010, August 2010, September 2010, October 2010), Monochrome (February 2008), Interior Architecture (January 2009, October 2009), Pictorial (August 2009).
  • Runner up in the Pet category for SWPP Photographer of the Year 2009.
  • Winner of SWPP "Pet Photographer of the Year" 2010.
  • However, awards only show that experienced photographers judge the images to be of the highest quality - it is far more important that you, as the client, are happy with the results.

    Q. What should I wear for my portrait photoshoot?
    A. Wear whatever you feel suits the image you want to portray. For example, if you want a very formal looking image then a suit would be appropriate. For relaxed family portraits, comfortable casual clothes are best. For group shots, it is usual for all subjects to wear similar plain clothing. Long sleeves are generally better than short for adults.

    Q. My pet has behaviour issues; can I still have his portrait taken?
    A. This would depend entirely on the nature of the issues. If there is a significant risk of harm to our photographer due to aggression, then we would not be able to carry out the commission. This would apply for example to dogs with a history of biting. Many dogs will be reluctant to stay in one place, which can be a challenge. To help promote calmness, try exercising the dog thoroughly prior to the photoshoot, and make sure there are plenty of favourite treats ready. For any dog training requirements, we recommend you contact a local training club such as the Cumbernauld Dog Training School.

    Q. There is a problem with my print - what can I do?
    A. Please contact us first to discuss the problem. Products with physical defects will be replaced on return of the item.

    Q. I have changed my mind about the prints I ordered - can I change them?
    A. You can return the product and receive another of similar value (subject to a 5 administration charge plus postage and packing.)

    Q. What kind of camera equipment do you use?
    A. To quote the famous photographer Ansel Adams, "The most important component part of any camera is the twelve inches behind it." In other words, it is the photographer that makes the images great - not the camera. Our equipment is professional grade and we always carry back-ups. Data integrity and security is maintained using robust processes including multiple on and off-site back-ups, and adherence to data protection legislation.

    Q. What do we need to do to book you for our wedding / event?
    A. Firstly, please contact us to confirm we are available for your date and advise us of your requirements. Once agreed, we will send out two copies of our standard terms and conditions for you to sign, returning one copy along with the required booking fee. Once we have received these, the booking is confirmed.

    Q. If we cancel the booking, do we get the booking fee back?
    A. The booking fee should be considered as a fee for the administration and planning involved in preparing for covering your wedding or event - it is not just a 'deposit' and is therefore not normally refundable. At our discretion, we may offer services to the same value instead of a refund. There is a statutory 7 day 'cooling off' period from the date the booking fee is paid.

    Q. Your website states you are a member of the SWPP - what is that?
    A. "The Society of Wedding and Portrait Photographers" consists of mainly professional photographers and has the aim of improving the standard of photographic services in the UK and abroad.
